Adderex-SR

Rating
Hi-Tech Adderex-SR® is a nootropic supplement that claims to promote improvements in the information processing area of the brain. The idea is that this will help improve concentration, learning, organizational skills, and memory. Despite the similarities of the name, Adderex is not the same as Adderall the well known prescription drug notorious for misuse among students.

Adderex-SR comes from US supplements company Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals who are mostly known for weight loss, T boosters, and muscle supplements. Despite the fact that this supplement is a nootropic, like many of their other products, Adderex contains high levels of stimulants to make this process happen. The product advertising is certainly upbeat, so we take an in depth look at the stimulants contained in Adderex-SR, and examine the claims and the side effects.

Adderex-SR Pros

  • May briefly improve attention span

Adderex-SR Cons

  • Incomplete ingredients profile
  • The Adderex formula comes with very little evidence
  • Recommended dose seems high and may lead to side effects
  • Using this supplement for sport could get you banned for doping

What You Need To Know About Adderex-SR

We are pretty unimpressed with Hi-Tech Adderex-SR. There is very little product information in amongst the large amount of blurb on their website. The ingredients listed are from the phenylethlamine class of drugs that are related to amphetamines, so this supplement may have a speedy effect. However the labelling of Adderex-SR leaves the customer totally in the dark about safety and side effects could be a very real problem.

What Are The Side Effects Of Adderex-SR?

Adderex-SR may have unpredictable effects which may include; increased blood pressure, dizziness, pounding sensation in ears, rapid heartbeat, tachycardia, anxiety, agitation, diarrhea, headaches, insomnia, restlessness, changes to sex drive, grandiosity, irritability, repetitive or obsessive behavior, and worsening of psychiatric conditions such as depression into mania.

Users should be aware that Adderex-SR could worsen symptoms of schizophrenia including hallucinations or delusions.

It can cause changes to the central nervous system so should not be taken within 2 weeks of surgery.

How Much Does Adderex-SR Cost?

Adderex-SR is expensive especially if you buy direct from the Hi-Tech website, where one bottle of 60 capsules costs $49.95.

Taken at the manufacture’s daily dose of 3 tablets a day, one bottle of Adderex-SR would last 20 days costing you $2.49 a day, with each tablet costing 0.83 cents.

Adderex-SR is also on sale from other retailers so you can shop around for price. We have seen it on sale for as little as $27.95 from companies such as A1 Supplements.

UK customers can also buy Hi-Tech Adderex-SR. We found one British company called All Star Health offering 60 capsules of Adderex-SR for £19.33

Our Verdict On Adderex-SR

Hi-Tech Adderex-SR will probably have a stimulant effect on most people and if this is what you are looking for, this supplement may be effective. The problem is that nothing is proven, and with the under researched PEA derivatives contained in this supplement, results could be unpredictable.

Yes, Hi-Tech Adderex-SR may improve your concentration short term; but there is little evidence or research into the main ingredients, and there are no long term benefits that can really be certified. More importantly this also raises some serious concerns about safety.

We have yet to find a Hi-Tech supplement that didn’t come with the risks of serious side effects, and although some people may believe that this proves that Hi-Tech supplements are effective, in our opinion most are just plain dangerous and a serious risk to health. Adderex-SR is no exception, and there is no way we would be comfortable about recommending this supplement.

Adderex-SR Review

Hi-Tech Adderex-SR is a supplement that claims to promote improvements in the information processing area of the brain to improve concentration, learning, organizational skills, and memory.

At first glance Hi-Tech Adderex-SR has an impressive combination of scientific sounding ingredients. These are named as; Beta – Methylphenylethamine HCI, Beta – Phenylethylamine HCI, N – Methyl – Phenylethylamine HCI, R – N – Benzyl – A – Phenylethylamine HCI, L – Lysine/Beta – Methylphenylethamine HCI, and L – Lysine/Beta – phenylethlamine HCI.

This is all a bit of a mouthful, but it’s clear on further research that these ingredients are all variations of one ingredient; phenylethlamine, a chemical derived from amino acid called phenylalanine that is found naturally occurring in the body.

Adderex-SR Facts

  • Each bottle contains 60 capsules
  • May cause side effects but no warnings on the bottle or in the product information
  • Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals are well known for supplements that contain stimulants

Phenethylamine stimulates the body to make certain chemicals that are important for regulating mood, as well as preventing depression and other psychiatric conditions. People who don’t make enough phenethylamine can be helped by adding phenethylamine to their diet.

Phenethylamine can also be made in the laboratory and taken in supplement form.

By increasing levels in the body, the idea is that it can help improve mood and attention span, weight loss, depression, and athletic performance.

However, having too much phenethylamine can cause similar side effects to the drug amphetamine. This is not really that surprising when you know that Phenylethylamine is a member of the PEA class of drugs that have a similar chemical make up to amphetamine class drugs.

How to Take Adderex-SR

  • Each capsule contains a blend of drugs that equate to 275mg a capsule.
  • Take 1-2 tablets in the morning and 1 tablet after lunch.
  • Do not exceed 4 tablets daily.
  • Adderex-SR® is heat and moisture sensitive, and bottle should be kept sealed after opening. Keep cotton & desiccant in the bottle to stave off moisture.

Adderex-SR is not the same as prescription drug Adderall. Although Adderall is also stimulant based (amphetamine and dextroamphetamine) it is not the same as this OTC supplement. However it is named to attract the same sort of people looking to buy Adderall illegally and without a prescription.

Adderex-SR Concerns:

  • The main ingredients and amounts of Adderex-SR listed in the product information are vague and possibly unsafe
  • Side effects can be dangerous at high doses, especially for people with many types of bi polar disorders
  • There is only anecdotal claims as to its long term effects because evidence and research is scarce
  • The name and marketing for Adderex could be confused with Adderall

Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals is based in Georgia, USA. The company manufacture and market their own supplements, and also sell via many of the bodybuilding supplement retailers such as GNC and Lucky Vitamin. The company is well known for selling a range of stimulant based supplements and for including dodgy and dangerous illegal substances in some formulations such as banned DMAA (1, 3-Dimethylamylamine HCI) another amphetamine based compound.

Although most Hi-Tech supplements are around body building, testosterone, and weight loss, the same stimulants show up time and time again in all sectors. Phenylethylamine is a particular favorite showing up in weight loss supplements, such as Fastin.

What Does Adderex-SR Claim To Do?

The three key features for Adderex-SR are as follows:

  • State-of-the-Art “Smart Nutrient” Ingredient Profile
  • Promotes Enhanced Cognitive Function, Memory, and Learning
  • The “New Kid on the Block” of Nutraceutical Brain Science for Cognitive Function

This is an example of Hi-Tech’s “high energy” product advertising:

Nearly a decade ago, Hi-Tech researchers began acquiring the requisite knowledge of nutraceutical neuroscience necessary to develop dietary supplements for brain health, to provide the public with a line of nutraceutical products at the forefront of brain health.

In doing this, Hi-Tech researchers developed a “Smart Nutrient” supplement overflowing with compounds that are truly on the cutting-edge of neurotransmitter chemistry. Moreover, these compounds come in efficacious dosages usually well above the threshold level needed for the user to experience nothing less than: “Wow!”

After reading this the customer is still no wiser as to what is in Adderex-SR.

Does Adderex-SR Work?

Adderex-SR may enhance memory and increase general activity in the short term. However we would be very cautious about taking this supplement.

The dosage according to the Hi-Tech website is 1-2 tablets in the morning and 1 tablet after lunch, not exceeding 4 tablets daily. At 275mg per capsule you would be taking over a gram a day if you took four tablets.

When stimulants are taken in prescription form and under medical advice the doses are usually safe. They are regulated on the patient’s age and are dependent on weight and height.

The doses of Adderex-SR advised on the label are based on recreational use and are very high compared to prescribed amounts. This increases the chance of side effects dramatically and many of them are similar to the abuse of amphetamines.

Just to be clear about this, Phenylethylamine is classified as a doping agent by the World Anti-Doping Agency, and is a banned drug because it is closely related to amphetamine.

However, when it comes to whether it works or not, the main problem with Phenylethylamine is the lack of evidence and research on its effects in the brain.

It is important to remember that just because something is legal and naturally produced, this does not necessarily make it safe for consumption.

What Are The Ingredients of Adderex-SR?

The Adderex-SR ingredients list come under a proprietary blend which means that all the ingredients are listed as a whole so you cannot work out what percentages of what ingredients are in capsule.

There are usually two reasons for this type of listing. The first reason is the ingredients are so good that the makers are trying to keep it a secret (yeah right!)

The second and more usual reason is the ingredients are not that special, and the maker doesn’t want you to know this.

Serving size is equal to one capsule.

  • Proprietary Blend (275mg): Beta – Methylphenylethamine HCI Beta – Phenylethylamine HCIN – Methyl – Phenylethylamine HCIR – N – Benzyl – A – Phenylethylamine HCI, L – Lysine/Beta – Methylphenylethamine HCIL – Lysine/Beta – phenylethlamine HCI.

Although the components all sound a little different, they are essentially the same ingredient and are derivatives of the Phenylethylamine class of drugs. More commonly known as PEA, this ingredient is derived from the amino acid phenylalanine. Despite being a naturally occurring compound, PEA has a molecular structure similar to amphetamine, and when taken to excess will cause similar effects.

Phenylethylamine is a stimulant. At low doses you may experience a short term high. At higher doses effects could be unpredictable. A safe dose will depend on age, weight, and other factors and at this time scientific research has not established this information.

Does Adderex-SR Have Any Side Effects?

Adderex-SR is likely to be unpredictable. Potential side effects can be similar to amphetamines side effects and may include

  • Increase blood pressure
  • Dizziness
  • Pounding sensation in ears
  • Rapid heart beat
  • Tachycardia
  • Anxiety
  • Agitation
  • Diarrhoea
  • Headaches
  • Insomnia
  • Restlessness
  • Changes to sex drive
  • Grandiosity
  • Irritability
  • Repetitive of obsessive behavior
  • Worsening of psychiatric conditions such as depression into mania

According to scientific opinion,

“Phenylethylamine in high doses can cause people with bipolar disorders to convert from depression to mania. It can worsen symptoms of schizophrenia including hallucinations or delusions

It can cause changes to the central nervous system so it cannot be taken for at least 2 weeks before surgery.Source
