Lumonol Prep comes from US company called Avanse Nutraceuticals, who specialize in nootropic supplements for all stages of life. According to the label, Lumonol is produced in California but without any real location details or a physical address, this company seems a little tricksy.
Lumonol Prep is a so-called cognitive health supplement aimed at children from 8 years to 16. It contains L-Theanine, Magnesium, Choline, Rhodiola Rosea Extract, Phosphatidylserine, Inositol, and Zinc, and with each bottle containing 30 capsules, the idea is that the child takes it once a day on a permanent basis.
Although this is supposed to help with a range of issues that are actually quite normal for many children but are likely to worry parents, it is important to point out that these ingredients have never been tested on children who have developing brains. There is zero evidence that this supplement will help over performing children, underperforming children, nervous children, behavior issues, and children and teens who struggle to mix.
If you do have concerns about your child’s behavior, enforcing them to take an untested and unproven OTC supplement like this, is not going to help and is no substitute for professional advice.
The ingredients have not been tested on developing brains, so long-term effects are unknown.
Levels of ingredients are low in Lumonol Prep, however potential side effects may include agitation, anxiety, diarrhea, headache, insomnia, nausea, and vomiting.
Lumonol Prep is a nootropic for children in a chewable form.
Buy from the Lumonol website, and one bottle of 30 chews (30 days supply) costs $44.70 plus shipping.
You can make savings on larger orders by buying 3 x bottles of Lumonol Prep for $97.97 which includes free US shipping.
International shipping is available and costs an additional $14.97 if you want it sent to the UK or Europe.
According to the advertising, there are three flavors available but this does not seem to be an option; you just get what is sent and there is no choice.
You are encouraged to sign up to subscribe and save. This is an auto-ship option where fresh supplies are delivered to you each month and your bank or credit card charged automatically. We don’t advise you choose this option and you may find it hard to cancel. Remember, Avanse Nutraceuticals are not transparent with their address or with their terms and conditions so you could have a fight on your hands in cancelling an auto-ship agreement.
You can also buy Lumonol Prep via Amazon for $45.97.
We do not rate this supplement at all. We never recommend giving supplements to anyone under 18 years old, and we are not going to start now.
In some cases, of course, vitamin supplements and similar are fine for kids but you should not give anything to young children without checking with your doctor or trained professional first. Just because Lumonol Prep comes with the claims that it is suitable for children, you really only have their word for that, and in our opinion, that word counts for very little.
Many of the ingredients in Lumonol Prep are really designed and used by the elderly to try and rejuvenate lost brain cells. This is very different from introducing the same chemicals to a child’s brain which is still in development. In addition, we can’t even see how this supplement is going to both help calm children down while at the same time help build a more extrovert character or make them smarter. In our opinion, this is just wishful thinking.
All we can say is that nobody ever said that bringing up children was easy, but Lumonol Prep is certainly not going to help!
Overall, we do not recommend Lumonol Prep to the Watchdog readers.

Lumonol Prep is a chewable supplement designed to support healthy brain functioning in children and teens and according to the advertising, “will give your little super hero some real super powers!”
The focus of Lumonol Prep is on supporting mood, focus, and concentration levels in children from the age of 8 – 16 years, while lowering nervousness and agitation levels that can often lead to an introverted character. So, if you feel that your child is not quite like the child that you want or if your child does have genuine attention or behavior issues, you may feel it is worth a try. However, this is clutching at straws.
The ingredients in Lumonol Prep are actually really designed to be used by elderly people to try and rejuvenate lost brain cells. This is a very different idea from introducing the same chemicals to a child’s brain which is still in development.
Although the ingredients might seem like a good mix at first glance, it is important to remember that the daily value has never been established. This is emphasized further when you read the warnings on the label. These are standard on all supplements but are often overlooked because they are so familiar. But, let’s look at them now!
“These statements have not been evaluated by the food and drug administration. The product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Always consult with your physician or medical practitioner before taking any dietary supplement”.
Lumonol Prep is advertised as available in an orange cherry or blueberry flavored chewable tablet. Although this is to make Lumonol Prep more appealing to consumers, there is not actually any flavor choice. This may be an oversight on the part of the payment check out page, but why advertise the choice of flavors if there isn’t one?
The claims of Lumonol Prep seem to be a catch-all problem solver. The advertising states:
It’s no secret that the difference between your child struggling, or rising to the top of the class can make the world of difference to them… and you. Enjoy watching your child perform, play, and be at their very best.
Lumonol Prep is suitable for:
Children & Teens 8 to 16 years
Over performing children frustrated at lack of stimulation
Under performing children being left behind at school
Children with Nervousness, Focus, Mood and Behavior issues
Children/Teens who struggle to mix with others
As a supplement for children’s cognitive health, it might work but some of the ingredients seem a bit hit or miss.
The ingredients in Lumonol Prep at first read seem pretty good. The ingredients contain L-Theanine which helps to lower levels of the stress hormone corticosterone. It contains magnesium which can help to improve sleep patterns where magnesium is deficient.
It also contains Choline for the good functioning of the enzyme, hormone, and immune systems. The addition of Rhodiola Rosea Extract, which seems to reduce fatigue and feelings of stress, is also useful even though there no real evidence beyond the anecdotal, that it helps improve cognitive functioning.
Phosphatidylserine is taken in supplement form and is thought to help with memory in older people, and tests have been shown that it may help some dementia sufferers. Inositol is used commonly within dietary supplements; it usually refers to a specific stereoisomer called myoinositol. Inositols are found in foods especially in whole grains and citrus fruits. It has been tested as a treatment for brain conditions such as stroke, dementia, and Alzheimer’s disease.
The odd thing about these ingredients is that they are largely used to treat elderly people with either brain disorders or to improve cognitive health in brains that may be losing cell through age.
The children, who Lumonol Prep is aimed at, still have developing brains where growth rather than decay is more of an issue. Although it is good that there are suggestions for better brain health for children who maybe live in poor environmental conditions, is it really the best idea to give them the same chemicals used for dementia sufferers?
At least the RDA amounts are respected with Zinc at 7mg where the RDA for 9 to 13 years is 8 mg/day. Magnesium which for children from 9 to 13 years ranges from 130 – 240 mg/day is included at 100mg.
Lumonol Prep is a chewable supplement designed to support healthy brain functioning in children and teens. The focus of Lumonol Prep is on supporting mood, focus, and concentration levels in children from the age of 8 – 16 years, while lowering nervousness and agitation levels that can often lead to an introverted character.
Although generally safe some side effects of Lumonol Prep may include:
Not suitable for individuals under 18. Avoid if you are pregnant or breast feeding. Speak to your doctor before use if you have any underlying medical conditions or are taking prescription medication.
There is only one review on Amazon US which reads:
Do your research – My son is doing great he feels more focused.
There seems to be a money-back guarantee on offer but on closer inspection, this is not as good as it seems. The 90-day money-back guarantee covers only unopened bottles, so is not more than a standard returns policy.
You can buy Lumonol Prep direct from the official product website. If you are outside the USA, international shipping is available for around $14.97 (UK and Europe).
