What You Need To Know About Mushroom Coffee With Cordyceps

Mushroom Coffee With Cordyceps is a coffee drink that also contains (as the name suggests) Chaga Mushrooms and Cordyceps. It is designed to provide more health benefits than regular coffee, including antioxidants, but also to cause fewer side effects than regular coffee, especially digestive upset. The product is relatively expensive compared to other instant coffee, but cheaper than buying regularly from coffee shop chains.

What Are The Side Effects Of Mushroom Coffee With Cordyceps?

Although one of the main selling points of Mushroom Coffee With Cordyceps is that it has fewer side effects than a regular cup of coffee, at least according to the manufacturers, there are still some side effects that could be caused by the ingredients found in Mushroom Coffee With Cordyceps.

Consuming large quantities of caffeine can lead to headaches, increased heart rate, increased blood pressure, heart palpitations, increased urination, dehydration, jitteriness, dizziness and insomnia.

Chaga Mushroom appears to affect blood sugar levels, and could increase the risk of hypoglycaemia (very low blood sugar levels). Symptoms of hypoglycaemia may include shakiness, hunger, confusion, dizziness, feeling weak or anxious, and difficulty speaking. Chaga mushrooms should not be consumed by diabetics.

The safety and side effects of Cordyceps have not been well researched in human studies. Reported side effects from cordyceps supplements include nausea, diarrhoea, dry mouth and mild stomach upset.

How Much Does Mushroom Coffee With Cordyceps Cost?

Mushroom Coffee with Cordyceps is a fairly expensive product, especially considering that it contains instant coffee (something that some customers hate, and others love). Obviously compared to the cost of a coffee chain cup of coffee, per cup the Mushroom Coffee does come out cheaper, but compared to a basic instant coffee you would buy to use at home, or even buying ground coffee for brewing, it works out to be an expensive option. A box of 10 sachets costs €15, or USD$11.95, plus delivery charges.

Our Verdict On Mushroom Coffee With Cordyceps

Overall, we are not very impressed by Mushroom Coffee With Cordyceps. The idea behind the product is novel; for anyone who wants the energy boost of coffee and who likes the taste of coffee, but who finds it causes stomach issues, Mushroom Coffee With Cordyceps should be intriguing. However, the use of two expensive ingredients, Cordyceps and Chaga Mushrooms, means that ultimately this, in our opinion at least, is a much more expensive option that provides little overall gain.

The company does not offer a money-back guarantee, and even avoids disclosing what their returns policy is.

Although it seems that many people like the flavour of the coffee, there are a significant number of people who have criticised the flavour in reviews. Whilst some people love that the coffee is instant coffee, making it more convenient and quick to use, others dislike this, preferring the taste and smoothness of brewed coffee. Unfortunately, this is the type of product that will never satisfy everyone when it comes to flavour.

Overall, we do not recommend Mushroom Coffee with Cordyceps to our readers.

What Does Mushroom Coffee With Cordyceps Claim To Do?

The manufacturers of Mushroom Coffee With Cordyceps make the following claims about the benefits of this drink:

Coffee is so energising because it stimulates the central nervous system and adrenal glands. Combining this with the more balanced cellular energy boost of cordyceps mushroom means that we can double coffee’s effects while using only half of the caffeine normally found in coffee! As an added bonus, cordyceps also support the adrenal glands.

Coffee is an acidic drink, which causes some people to experience stomach burn. Our solution? Adding highly alkaline-forming Chaga mushroom extract to coffee, which simultaneously solves the acidity problem and results in a smoother taste. The powerful antioxidants, antiviral effects, and immune-boosting properties of Chaga mushrooms transform your cup of Joe from an energy-boosting treat to a health-enhancing choice!

Does Mushroom Coffee With Cordyceps Work?

There are numerous studies that suggest that Cordyceps could help both brain function and physical performance during exercise. Studies in mice suggest that it could help to improve learning memory. It appears to improve the body’s utilisation of oxygen, which could help the consumer to feel more focused, more awake, and more energetic.

The caffeine that is naturally occurring in caffeine can increase energy levels and alertness. It can also have a very small effect upon the consumer’s metabolic rate, burning slightly more calories for a few hours after drinking the beverage.

Chaga Mushrooms are alkaline, and so theoretically counteracts the acidity of coffee, therefore reducing the likelihood of stomach issues when drinking coffee on an empty stomach. It also means that overall, the coffee still tastes relatively strong, whilst having a slightly lower than average caffeine content.

Whilst Mushroom Coffee with Cordyceps could definitely increase energy levels and alertness, it appears not to be much more effective than plain coffee, if at all.

What Are The Ingredients of Mushroom Coffee With Cordyceps?

The ingredients found in Mushroom Coffee With Cordyceps are detailed below. The serving sizes are per packet, which will make one cup of coffee. Each packet contains 40 mg of naturally occurring caffeine.

  • 100% Arabica Coffee (2,000 mg): Contains caffeine. Numerous studies have shown that caffeine boosts energy levels and alertness, as well as mildly boosting the metabolism for a few hours after consumption. The effects shown in studies are small, and some studies are inconclusive.
  • Chaga Mushroom: In animal studies, Chaga displayed anti-allergic, cognition-enhancing, and antioxidant activities; these properties have either not been demonstrated, or not researched, in humans directly.
Preliminary human studies have found Chaga Mushrooms to have immunomodulating, anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties.
  • Cordyceps: This ingredient is a parasitic fungus that grows on caterpillar larvae in some regions of India. It has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years. There is limited evidence linking this ingredient with improved athletic performance and endurance. It may also boost the immune system, improve cognition and act as a mood enhancer.

Are There Any Customer Reviews For Mushroom Coffee With Cordyceps?

There are hundreds of customer reviews for Mushroom Coffee With Cordyceps that have been left on amazon and several other online retailers where the product is sold. The product was recommended in a podcast by Tim Ferris (author of the Four-Hour Work Week); the customer reviews often credit him for them finding the supplement and so it is likely that his recommendation has played a huge role in the product’s popularity. The majority of customer reviews are positive, but there are some people who dislike the product. The most commonly mentioned issues that people have included the high price of the product, the small number of sachets per box and the apparent lack of cognitive benefits. The taste of the product is also often commented upon; whilst some people love the taste, others find that the taste is too ‘mushroomy’, and others complain that it tastes like instant coffee, not brewed, higher-quality coffee.

I’ve been trying to avoid coffee since it typically gives me acid reflux. However, I’ve been having a difficult time fully functioning at work without caffeine. This seemed like a great compromise. This stuff is definitely easier on the stomach than normal coffee, and I have been drinking it black. Though the taste isn’t anything to write home about, but it certainly isn’t bad by any means. It’s definitely too early to tell about the cordyceps and its benefits on adrenal fatigue, but I’m hoping it helps!

Didn’t get the Tim Ferris-advertised energy kick from this that I was expecting – in fact, to me it’s just average tasting (average for instant, bad for regular) coffee. I’ll probably use it up, eventually, but only when my other coffees are gone. Actually a little disappointed with this.

Overpriced, tastes like bad instant coffee, gritty, and doesn’t do its job.

This has a (very) distinct fungi taste, which does not go well with coffee. Pity, as I was excited about all the benefits of mixing mushroom and coffee, but I simply could not drink it.

First off, the coffee didn’t give me any noticeable caffeine-like benefit. That’s the only reason I’m not giving it 5 stars. The taste was very good. I was a little apprehensive at first as well as my mushroom-hating friend. They think it just tastes like coffee, and really enjoyed the flavour. I disagree and feel that the mushroom taste doesn’t carry over, but a rich, earthy, slightly nutty taste does. I love how that flavour compliments the coffee flavour. It’s a little pricey for instant coffee, but nice to have on hand when I want a treat that’s a little different.

Huge disappointment as returns are not accepted as you can normally with Amazon. I took a risk, bought this coffee, tried one and felt dizzy, tired (!) and foggy most of the day – it could be due to low quality instant coffee. Buy at your own risk, know you won’t be able to return it even if you suffer from drinking it like I did.

I love this stuff, slightly addicted. Wish more than 10 came in a box. Set out to only drink 1 a day but now I drink 2. My only issue with Thrive was they sent 4 tiny boxes of my coffee in a MASSIVE box with a TON of crumpled paper in it. I complained saying they need to be more earth-friendly and they said it’s all recycled paper – but on my end it was too much! They’re lucky that I recycle, not everyone does.

Super easy to make – very good flavour for instant coffee. Even froths a little bit. Would love to see the price come down on these but totally still cheaper than Starbucks.
