Below we take an in-depth look at Natrol Brain Speed Memory to see whether or not it is an effective nootropic supplement.
Overall we are not convinced that Natrol Brain Speed Memory is the best option available for a nootropic supplement. The ingredients used are a mix of very high doses of vitamins, and several nootropic ingredients that have little or no clinical support (although they are all considered to have the potential to be beneficial to cognitive performance).
Whilst the entire field of nootropics is still in its infancy, there are other ingredients available that have stronger clinical support to suggest that they work more than DMAE. There is also a significant list of potential side effects that could occur whilst taking this supplement.
The high dosage of vitamins used (in some cases thousands of times greater than the RDA) means that this product should not be used every single day over a prolonged period of time. Huperzine A is another ingredient whose use should be cycled regularly, and yet this is not mentioned in the directions for use provided by the manufacturers. Those who experience side effects or who have concerns about the high level of vitamins should consult their doctor.
Natrol sell Brain Speed Memory from their official website, with a single bottle costing $24.49 plus delivery charges.
The product is covered by a 30 day money back guarantee when ordered from the manufacturers, but the product is available much cheaper through third party retailers.
Although the majority of customer reviews are positive there are some negative reviews and acknowledgements that the noticed results could be attributed to the placebo effect, but overall, in practice, consumers do notice some improvements in cognitive function after taking Natrol Brain Speed Memory.
Overall, we do not recommend Natrol Brain Speed Memory to our readers.

Natrol Brain Speed Memory is a nootropic supplement that, according to the manufacturers, will promote memory and recall and will speed up the thinking and cognitive process.
It is manufactured by Natrol, a vitamin and supplement manufacturer with 35+ years of experience. The company is based in California, USA. Customers who want to contact the company can find the relevant information on the company’s official website, or can reach them through social media, including Facebook and Twitter.
Take 1 tablet, two times daily, preferably in the morning and afternoon, with a meal. Do not exceed recommended daily intake.
According to the manufacturers, Natrol Brain Speed Memory has the following benefits:
There are numerous vitamins present in Natrol Brain Speed Memory. The quantities used are huge, especially compared to the recommended daily intakes. For example, the amount of Thiamine provided per two capsule daily serving is 1250% of the recommended daily intake; taking excessive amounts of Thiamine has been associated with increased obesity rates in American children, and can also cause other side effects.
Huperzine A could help to boost cognitive function. Phosphatidylserine has clinical support linking it with the treatment of cognitive decline, but there is no strong evidence linking it with improved cognitive function in those who are not cognitively impaired (such as those suffering from Alzheimer’s).
Whilst the majority of customer reviews are positive there are some people who failed to notice a difference in their mental performance. One consumer experienced severe side effects including hallucinations; this appears to be a very rare side effect, but obviously anyone experiencing side effects should stop using the product immediately, and consult a doctor if the side effects are severe.
The ingredients list features lots of vitamins and minerals, which are used in high doses. This could cause side effects, and medical advice generally states that these high doses should not be taken for more than three months.
There are three non-vitamin ingredients that have been linked with improved cognition and mental function, although the clinical support for each ingredient varies hugely. At this time there is very little clinical evidence to support the use of DMAE as a nootropic supplement, whilst Phosphatidylserine has clearly shown its potential benefits in studies focusing upon participants with Alzheimer’s and other forms of mental decline, but has not been studied as a cognitive booster.
Theoretically, Natrol Brain Speed Memory could help to improve the consumer’s cognitive performance, but this is far from guaranteed, certain, or measurable against other nootropic supplements that contain other under-researched cognitive boosting ingredients.
The ingredients used in Natrol Brain Speed Memory are listed below. The ingredient quantities listed are per serving of a single tablet. Consumers can take up to two tablets per day.
Folic Acid 1,000 mcg (250% RDA)
Pantothenic Acid (from d-Calcium Pantothenate) 125 mg (1,250% RDA)
There are numerous ingredients used in Natrol Brain Speed Memory that could cause a range of side effects.
High doses of Thiamine may cause low blood pressure, vitamin drowsiness, excitation, immune changes, increased cancer risk, muscle relaxation, seizures (when injected into the vein or brain), skin irritation (burning or itching), slow heart rate, weight changes, and widened blood vessels.
High doses of Vitamin B12 can cause acne, severe rosacea flare ups, itchy skin or light rashes on the body and face, headache, dizziness, diarrhoea, indigestion, upset stomach, vomiting, nausea, back pain, swelling, arthritis, anxiety, nervousness and lack of coordination.
DMAE can cause constipation, itching, headache, drowsiness, insomnia, excitation, vivid dreams, confusion, depression, increased blood pressure, an increase in schizophrenia symptoms, and unwanted movements of the face and mouth.
Huperzine A can cause some side effects such as nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, sweating, blurred vision, slurred speech, restlessness, loss of appetite, contraction and twitching of muscle fibres, cramping, increased saliva and urine, inability to control urination, high blood pressure, and slowed heart rate.
Side effects of Phosphatidylserine can include insomnia and stomach upset, particularly at doses over 300 mg. It can be made from either plant or animal sources, and so may not be suitable for vegetarians in all cases; in this supplement, the Phosphatidylserine appears to be sourced from soy.
Caution:
Not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women. Not suitable for any woman who is trying to conceive, as DMAE could potentially cause defects in unborn infants if consumed in the first few days after conception. Not suitable for anyone under the age of 18. Not suitable for anyone who is taking any medications, whether prescription or over the counter. If you are unsure about the suitability of this nootropic supplement, or any other supplement, consult your doctor before purchase.
There are numerous customer reviews for Natrol Brain Speed Memory on Lucky Vitamin and iHerb, two of the third party retailers that sell the product.
My father is 85 years old and lives only 5 miles from my sister (his daughter). He goes there almost every night for the last 14 years. Two weeks ago he started to get lost driving. He just keeps missing a road to turn on. It would take up to over an hour to get home. He would get so mad at himself for being so forgetful. Got him Brain Speed and in five days he stopped getting lost! I will be taking these myself!
Has a very bad smell. Find it so hard to swallow
Couldn’t tell immediately but after 2 weeks or so, I could tell my memory seemed more sharper and memorizing became easier for me.
A few days after taking this, I started to experience hallucination twice. It occurred not after I took it, but hours after I had taken it. I had headaches and seeing dark holes. I have stopped taken for about a month, and I had not experienced the hallucination once since. The only other time I had such hallucination was about 10 years ago when I drunk my first and only Coke Zero. Doctor told me that I was allergic to the artificial sugar substitute. The reaction I had with this supplement was not as severe as my experience with Coke Zero, but it was still disturbing enough.
Quite good when you get used to it but can a little hard on your stomach at first.
I definitely noticed the brain fog lift when taking this in the morning…and my recall enhanced as well. Good stuff!
Good stuff. Take it with food.
After taking Huperzine by itself along with a salad of other supps it was hard to gauge the efficacy of this product. After a good bit of study and cross ref. I realized this was a good fit and allowed me to remove a few other products from my regimen and save a few dollars without sacrificing any of what I now consider things that are essential to my health and happiness. I def. think it is worth a try, much easier to gauge if you are starting at minimal supps, then adding, then take a few days off and you can often notice the difference.
How did live without it. Helps me think better and I’m more alert.
