Below we take an in-depth look at Onnit Shroom Tech Sport to see whether it could aid mental energy and focus, as well as acting as a pre-workout supplement.
Onnit Shroom Tech Sport contains ingredients that mean it can be used as a pre-workout supplement, as an energy boosting supplement, or as a nootropic. However, the product is primarily promoted as a pre-workout supplement, as reflected in customer reviews.
There is very little feedback about how well the product works as a nootropic, although theoretically it could reduce stress and cortisol levels, improve focus and mental energy, improve cognition and even learning memory.
May lead to headaches, increased heart rate, increased blood pressure, heart palpitations, increased urination, dehydration, jitteriness, dizziness and insomnia.
A bottle of 30 capsules costs $24.95, whilst a bottle of 90 capsules costs $59.88. Delivery charges may also apply.
Overall, Onnit Shroom Tech Sport could potentially be a subtle energy booster for both mind and body, and could help to lower cortisol levels when used in the long term, but these small benefits come with a high daily dosage and high cost per serving. We do not recommend Onnit Shroom Tech Sport to our readers.

Onnit Shroom Tech Sport works as both a Nootropic and as a pre-workout supplement. It is designed primarily for use by athletes, but the ingredients could seemingly benefit most casual gym-goers and anyone who finds a long workday both physically and mentally exhausting. The primary way the product works is by improving oxygen utilisation; more oxygen in the bloodstream is beneficial for both exercise and mental function.
The product is manufactured by Onnit, a health and fitness supplement manufacturer based in Austin, Texas. The company can be contacted using the information provided at the bottom of their official website.
We have mixed views about Onnit Shroom Tech Sport. On the one hand, this product contains almost no stimulants, other than a small amount of caffeine, and yet offers improved energy and oxygen utilisation, which should benefit consumer’s both mentally and physically in theory. The general absence of stimulants means that the chances of healthy consumer’s developing side effects is low; however, anyone with any serious health conditions should still consult their doctor before purchase, as the ingredients can interfere with previously-existing health conditions.
Take a serving of either three capsules or 1 capsule per 50lbs of body weight (whichever dose is larger), 45 minutes prior to physical exertion or competition, preferably on an empty stomach. When not engaging in planned physical exertion, take a serving of 1-2 capsules in the afternoon on an empty stomach to maintain daily energy. Do not exceed more than 6 capsules in any 24 hour period unless otherwise directed by a health practitioner.
Customer opinions are mixed about the product; because it is not a stimulant and the energy boost is ‘subtle’, many have stated that it is a great non-stimulant product, whilst others felt that there was no difference before and after taking the product.
The biggest problem we have with this product is the price; the average serving for Onnit Shroom Tech Sport is three capsules, but depending upon the consumer’s body weight it could be even higher; this means that a small bottle of 30 capsules could last for just 10 servings, or even less for body builders and other heavier consumers. This makes it expensive for long term use; several of the ingredients may need to be taken regularly over a prolonged period of time to see maximum benefits, and so occasional use is less than ideal.
The manufacturers of Onnit Shroom Tech Sport provide the following description of the supplement:
Shroom TECH Sport battles fatigue with a strategy unlike any other supplement on the market, providing cellular energy through the production of ATP rather than purely stimulant-based energy, and helping the body to improve oxygen utilization so you can go longer, recover faster, and set a new personal best.
Customer reviews are mixed, with some noticing continuous, subtle, non-jittery energy, whilst other consumers notice no difference at all. The customer reviews also fail to refer to any mental changes, other than an increase in focus, although this may be because the product is primarily advertised to athletes as a pre-workout supplement – the reviewers may simply not be looking for any mental benefits or changes.
Several of the ingredients may increase energy levels as well as improve alertness and focus, although their impact is very open to interpretation. If used regularly, the product could lower cortisol levels; if the consumer had high cortisol levels to begin with, they may notice beneficial side effects such as more energy, improved sleeping patterns and improved mood over time. However, consumers with low cortisol levels already will not notice any impact from changing cortisol levels.
The ingredients used in Onnit Shroom Tech Sport are listed below. The ingredient quantities provided are per serving of three capsules. The product does contain two proprietary blends, and so not all of the individual ingredient quantities are provided.
Shroom Tech O2 Blend 1500 mg
Shroom Tech Adaptogen Blend 875 mg
According to Onnit customer service, there is 30-45mg of caffeine per dose of Onnit Shroom Tech Sport; this is a very low dose, but side effects from caffeine consumption are still possible, especially if the consumer is also sourcing caffeine from other supplements, teas, coffees and energy drinks. Consuming large quantities of caffeine can lead to headaches, increased heart rate, increased blood pressure, heart palpitations, increased urination, dehydration, jitteriness, dizziness and insomnia. Green tea can also cause constipation.
Large doses of ashwaganda can cause stomach upset, diarrhoea and vomiting. It can also change blood pressure levels.
In rare cases, excess vitamin B12 supplementation may cause some numbness or tingling in the arm, hands and face. Considering the amount of vitamin B12 used in a three capsule serving of Shroom Tech Sport is 50,000% of the RDA, these side effects are more likely.
Chromium can lower blood sugar levels, and so diabetics should consult their doctor before taking this product. Low blood sugar levels (which are more likely when the consumer has not eaten yet as well as taking a supplement that lowers blood sugar levels further) can cause dizziness, light-headedness and even fainting.
Do not use if pregnant or nursing. Do not use if you are under the age of 18. Consult with a health care practitioner before taking this or any nutritional supplement if you have or suspect a medical condition, are taking any medications, particularly blood thinners or drugs related to cardiac health, over the counter products or non-Onnit dietary supplements. Anyone who suffers from any auto-immune diseases should not take this product, as several ingredients could boost the immune system, worsening the symptoms of auto-immune conditions. Do not use if the safety seal is broken or missing. Not suitable for anyone who has a thyroid condition or who takes thyroid medication. Store in a cool, dry place. Keep out of reach of children.
There are hundreds of customer reviews for this product on the official sales website, bodybuilding.com and on amazon. The reviews primarily focus upon physical benefits rather than mental benefits. The main customer complaint is the high cost of the product, which is most likely high because of the use of a significant dose of Cordyceps Sinensis, one of the most expensive supplement ingredients available.
Mild effects at best. Not a good purchase.
I had a lot of energy when I took this product not jittery but very focused. I enjoyed how I had no stomach issues when taking it definitely a nice change from other pre workouts. The one downside is the price per serving is way to high compared to other pre workouts on the market.
I tried the recommended dose, then the extra large recommended dose, then various other doses and never noticed any difference. At the end of the day, the only supplement I know that has been proven to actually provide energy is good ole’ caffeine.
As far as the mushroom extract helping improve oxygenation, well, I’m sure that’s a joke. Let’s get real, this supplement is expensive and doesn’t do anything. If you want energy then get some caffeine. If you want oxygen uptake, then try yawning.
Best supplement I’ve ever used. Period. If you expect this to do the same thing for you that those can full of poison you buy at the gas station, then move on. What this does is provide the type of energy an already motivated person needs to power through any activity they might be doing.
I’m a professional land surveyor, my days consist of a lot of walking on all types of terrain, cutting trails through swampland, driving hubs for construction, digging holes through roots, clay, asphalt, etc. I’m also an athlete who comes home after 10-12 hours of said job and works out 6 days a week. I keep one bottle of Shroomtech in the work truck, and one beside my kettlebells.
This is also good because it’s stimulant free, I don’t need to worry about it geeking me up so that I have even more trouble sleeping than usual. The most subtle energy, it’s almost like it waits til you start doing something to kick in. Can’t really explain it that well. Bottom line … This is awesome.
ShroomTech Sport is my new favorite pre-workout supplement. It’s one of the only performance-enhancing supplements I’ve ever tried that I thought was worth it.
You know it’s working when you’re able to keep pushing, almost effortlessly, without feeling jittery or like a thousand hot needles are stabbing your face. It feels very subtle and very clean, so you don’t even realize that you’ve taken a pre-workout supp. It’s a little pricey compared to many other pre-workout supplements, but worth the value in my opinion. Though I am a lightweight as a 160 pounder, so I don’t need to take as much as a bigger person.
I haven’t tried this for a lifting workout, but for conditioning/endurance work, I don’t think there’s anything better out there.
Onnit offer a money back guarantee on all their products. There are two options with their refund policy; smaller bottles, such as the 30 capsule bottle of Onnit Shroom Tech Sport, (called entry-sized supplements) do not require a return for full refund (minus shipping & applied discounts).
The guarantee is valid within 90-days of the initial purchase date. We will request feedback regarding the formula in question and then take immediate action to refund the cost of the product. Refunds processed through credit card transactions may take 5-7 business days to post to a bank statement, as this is dependent on the financial institution and not on Onnit’s merchant provider.
Supplement formulas greater than our entry-level options (90ct bottles, multiple bottles of any size, Total Primate Care 30-day supply, etc.) can be refunded in full upon return of remaining product; partial refunds can be granted with no return required. Refunds are only applicable to cost of product, as shipping fees will not be refunded.
