Stabilium 200 is produced by a company called the Allergy Research Group, who specialise in providing hypoallergenic nutritional supplements of all types. The company is based in California, but sell to health practitioners and nutritional companies around the World. Allergy Research Group does not deal direct with individual private customers. Stabilium is manufactured in France.
Stabilium 200 is a nootropic supplement, supposedly based on a druid/roman fish sauce called Garum Armoricum. According to the advertising, it dates back 2000 years and has special benefits related to nootropic health including enhanced energy and feeling calm. The active ingredient is derived from the Blue Ling, a deepwater fish found off the coast of France.
According to the advertising, Garum has numerous nootropic benefits and it certainly will not hurt you, but in truth we find Stabilium unconvincing. There does not seem to a shred of independent evidence about this supplement and although it has created a stir in the supplements world, we are finding it hard to believe it really does work as described.
Side effects are unlikely when taking Stabilium 200.
Stabilium 200 is expensive. Buy from Amazon UK and it costs £19.99 for 30 capsules (15 days supply).
It is on sale via Amazon USA for around $20.00
We are not overly impressed by Stabilium 200. Although we like the story that this is the same substance as used over 2000 years ago, we are frankly sceptical. The Romans did eat Garum, a type of fish sauce, but there is not much evidence for its supposed health benefits. Most contemporary records mention Garum as a type of salty condiment, rather than its health benefits.
The Garum Armorican used in Stabilium is derived from a fish called the Blue Ling, which is unpopular as a culinary fish and is generally used as fish meal. Are we being cynical in assuming that it is probably quite inexpensive to use so the manufacturing overheads are cheap? That said, fish has numerous health benefits in general and we cannot see this supplement doing you any harm.
On the plus side, many people seem to like this supplement and feel that it does help in numerous ways so if you fancy it, it will not do you any harm to try it. But we cannot recommend this as a proven nootropic as there is just no independent clinical evidence to say it really works as described.
Overall, we do not recommend Stabilium 200 to our readers.

Stabilium 200 is a nootropic supplement that is supposed to help you cope with stress, sleep better, and generally feel more awake and alert. We’ve heard all this before, but Stabilium 200 is very different to other products on the market.
Stabilium 200 contains a fish extract historically known as Garum Armoricum. This is made from the innards of the Molva Dypterygia, more commonly known as Blue Ling, which is a type of deepwater cod found off the coast of Brittany in France. Many people still believe in the old folk tale that fish is brain food, and there is some truth in it. Fish is high in omega 3 oils and nutrient and minerals such as zinc, which can all have a positive effect upon mental functioning and mood.
However, Stabilium 200 is not just another fish oil supplement. It is based on an historic health treatment dating back thousands of years.
According to the advertising, Garum Armoricum was used in Roman times – the word Armorica is the Roman name for Brittany, and was a recipe stolen from the Druids. Garum Armorica was given to the sick and the old, as well as legionnaires going into battle because of its mentally uplifting benefits.
We found this extremely interesting and it is certainly true that Ancient Romans were crazy for Garum, a type of fish sauce made by fermented the innards of fish. This has been mentioned in numerous writings of the time.
Blue Ling is not particularly popular as an edible fish. Consumers are put off by the strange appearance and blue texture of its skin, so much of it ends up as fish meal. Check out the ingredients tab to find out more. Other ingredients include sunflower oil, soybeans, and vitamins.
Stabilium 200 comes under the label of the US company Allergy Research Group, which was established back in 1979 to provide cutting edge allergy orientated health supplements. Stabilium 200 however appears to have been manufactured in France, which makes a lot of sense seeing as the active fish ingredient is found off the French coast.
Stabilium 200 is marketed by alternative health practitioners, naturopaths, and nutritionists. In the UK this is mainly based in Devon via a company called Nutri Link. You can buy Stabilium direct via Amazon UK and Amazon USA, but in many cases customers will come across this supplement via their alternative health practitioner.
The product advertising, explains the history of the supplement,
“An extract called Garum Armoricum® from the fish Molva Dypterygia, found in deep waters off the Armorican peninsula of Brittany. It was used by the ancient Celts of Armorica, Ireland, and by the ancient Romans, as a food supplement to improve resilience to physical and emotional stress.”
There has been research into Stabilium, but the product information does not provide any details,
“Research confirms that Stabilium® 200 may be useful for coping with stresses from work or personal life, and can support healthy sleep patterns, energy, memory, and mood.”
“This remedy is possibly the oldest nutritional supplement in Western Europe, being over 2,000 years old. It has stood the test of time, and has been the subject of 20th century clinical research which showed benefits. Modern life consistently provides a multiplicity of sources of stress on the human body and this supplement is but one that could help to provide some counterpoint by supporting resistance to stress.”
First up we thought we would look into the history of Garum Armoricum. However, the truth is that most references to this so called historic ingredient used for the past 2000 years, comes from product advertising or news paper articles about this supplement.
According to historic sources, both the Greeks and The Romans did use Garum, a type of fermented fish sauce. There is some record that the Romans may have taken a recipe from the Neolithic people of northern Europe, in which they took the guts and inedible parts of the fish and soaked them in brine. There have been Garum workshops discovered in Rome, and it seems that this delicacy was a health craze in Rome as well as enjoyed for the challenging taste. In the same way as we enjoy lime pickle or anchovies today.
But there is no evidence that it required the use of the Blue Ling, or that it even worked as claimed.
So looking at the current clinical research, what have we found? In truth, not much. Most of the clinical research into Garum has been carried out by alternative medicinal practitioners, and we just cannot find a sensible answer.
Dr Dorman, one the founders of Allergy Research Group studied the effects upon fifty four college students between the ages of 18 and 25. He found extremely favourable results.
The results show an obvious decrease in average anxiety scores during the initial weeks, and a statistically significant decrease in anxiety (P<0.05) from Garum Armoricum® at weeks 2, 3, and 4 of the study.
Dr Dorman felt that switching to Garum Armoricum (Stabilium) from benzodiazepines was a good option when treating “chronically chronically anxious individuals become people who are able to cope in a rational, calm way with their health issues.”
Where benzodiazepines have serious side effects, are addicting, and lead to significant withdrawal issues, Garum Armoricum® works better and serves as a useful, safe substitute. Many patients were switched off benzodiazepines successfully by tapering them slowly over six to eight weeks while they take Garum.
We would have liked to see why this particular fish preparation is so good for mental health. There is however no explanation or no real evidence. Anecdotally some people say it works but in truth we are finding it all rather unconvincing.
Serving size is equal to two capsules. Quantities here are per serving size and not per capsule.
We think it is extremely unlikely that anything in this supplement will cause side effects.
Not suitable for individuals under 18. Avoid if you are pregnant or breast feeding. Speak to your doctor first if you have any underlying health concerns or are taking prescription medication. This is standard advice for all supplements.
Yes, we found customer reviews posted on Amazon UK and Amazon USA. Most opinion is positive and the reviewers seem genuine.
This reviewer found it improved his sleep and made him feel calmer
I bought this to help me sleep after a really tough time last summer. I wasn’t prepared for how effective it was going to be! Half an hour after taking them I was ready to pass out. They only helped to keep me to stay asleep for 4-5 hours but it made such a difference and it was good quality deep sleep. I also felt much calmer for the following day.
Another customer said it was an “Excellent product if you are tired all the time” because it helps energy levels.
One customer liked the supplement but found it too pricy,
Found these extremely helpful with cognitive function/managing stress however the downside is the price… Really pricy to take them as directed. Would still recommend trying.
Some customers felt the supplement had a calming effect,
My daughter took this for anxiety and panic attacks and it made her feel at ease and she had no more panic attacks. I highly recommend this product. Take 4 for 15 days, then 2 a day.
This is one on my daily supplements. My wife and I take it daily and more often if work is too stressful. Cannot verify medical claims on it but I feel it helps. HAs a long history back to Roman times though so must be doing something right.
A few customers did not notice any difference between taking and not taking this supplement, such as this reviewer who simply stated,
Not seen any improvement
