Standard Process is a well-established alternative health company that produces supplements for humans and for veterinary use. They ‘apply systems thinking to holistic nutrition that empowers practitioners to transform lives’.
Standard Process Pneumotrophin is a health supplement that contains bovine lung tissue as the major ingredient. We found this extremely unappealing but taking this is supposed to improve your own lung function. There is no scientific evidence anywhere that says that it will do this. Glandular supplements like this fall firmly into the bracket of ‘alternative medicine “and in truth it does look fairly crackpot to us. That said some customers feel that it helps lung issues but there is no reason why this supplement should have a nootropic effect.
This supplement should not cause side effects.
Standard Process Pneumotrophin PMG is expensive, especially when you consider it is all unproven. It is available from alternative practitioners across the USA but is also available via Amazon USA.
One bottle of 90 tablets (one month’s supply) costs $56.99.
We do not rate Standard Process Pneumotrophin PMG at all. There is no real scientific evidence that taking a supplement derived from a cow’s lung will improve your own lung function and in our opinion this practice sounds more like voodoo than it does science. In addition it is highly unlikely to cause a nootropic effect. There is just no evidence and this supplement seems to fall into the bracket of wacky pseudo-scientific theories.
One danger of eating organ meat is the high amount of hormones and antibiotics that are routinely administered to cattle which are then concentrated in organs. Despite the perceived benefits of natural offal, the reality is that these types of meat products can be dangerous for health.
Although many people are now advocating that we eat more offal for mental health, taking beef lungs in supplement form seems to be taking this idea too far. Organ meat is a source of minerals, vitamins and a molecule called PS (phosphatidylserine) which may help prevent against Alzheimer’s but as this is present in many natural foods such as fish and plant sources, there are more palatable options than this supplement.
Containing ingredients that have been clinically tested and boasting a 30-day money-back guarantee, OmniMind is quickly rising to the top of the nootropic world.

Once upon a time people regularly consumed all sorts of organ meat in their regular diet including brains (brawn), lungs often called lights in the UK, chitterlings, hearts, tripe, kidneys, liver and more.
With changes to diet and increased income most of us do not eat offal or organ meat any more unless, of course, it is hidden away in a meat product such as a sausage. Organ meat has never been popular in the US outside the South or in communities holding on to old world traditions.
After all why would you eat lungs or hearts when a steak is easily available? However there may be a good reason. Organ meat has recently been adopted by Paleo fans because it is a rich source of nutrients, minerals and enzymes.
Take one tablet with each meal (three per day).
There is also a growing movement of people who believe in the power of taking glandular supplements. These may contain nutrients enzymes, fatty acids vitamins, amino acids, minerals and neurotransmitters so look to be good for health.
Some people believe that taking a like for like supplements such as this one which contains lung extract will improve lung function in the recipient. Other believe in the nootropic effects of organ meat supplements because offal is a source of Phosphatidylserine (PS) a natural chemical that may help prevent against neurological diseases such as dementia. PS may also enhance mental alertness and memory. Research suggests it clears away the plaque in the brain that builds up over years and is a contributory cause of Alzheimer’s.
Standard Process Pneumotrophin PMG is a supplement that contains only Bovine Lung Extract as the sole ingredient.
Standard Process is a US company that sells only through a network of health professionals. The company was founded in 1929 and specialises in high quality nutritional and natural supplements of all kinds. The majority of all ingredients (plant or animal) are grown at their own organic farm. Standard Process is very clear about their manufacturing processes and guarantee that all cattle conform to stringent policy about BSE (mad cow disease). All animals are inspected before they can be used for human consumption.
According to the Standard Process product information ‘Pneumotrophin PMG supports healthy lung function’.
This is not explained but it is important to know that the Standard Process Company was founded by Dr. Royal Lee who is considered a pioneer in the field of glandular supplements. He introduced glandular supplements made by a unique process he developed back in the 1950s.
He called the glandular supplements ‘protomorphogens’ (proto = first or preceding, plus morphogen = able to cause or determine the origination, development, or form). His research led him to believe that each cell contains a blueprint of the original purpose. This means that a supplement that is derived from a lung will help improve lung function once taken.
The product information explains about the ethos of the company,
Since 1929, Standard Process has been the visionary leader in whole food nutrient solutions. We apply systems thinking to holistic nutrition that empowers practitioners to transform lives. Dedicated to the whole food philosophy of our founder, Dr. Royal Lee, our goal is to carry on his mission to provide nutrients for the body that are as close as possible to how they are found in nature.
Although many people will take glandular supplements such as this one for a perceived nootropic effect, this is not the designed purpose.
We don’t think it will have much of a nootropic effect. Many people take organ meat for the PS content but you can find this powerful natural chemical in many dietary food stuffs such as tinned mackerel. You can also take PS supplements derived from soy lecithin.
Although the best source of PS is still considered to be bovine brain tissue (713 per 100 mg) the health risks around BSE have deterred most people. PS is present in organ meat such as lungs but fish such as mackerel and herring have a higher PS content. Effects of this supplement may be unnoticeable.
We are not experts in the field of glandular supplements. It seems pretty wacky to us and this type of alternative medicine has no real evidence it will work in the way as described. That said, some people believe in it and if this is you, Standard Process with its long history and certified manufacturing process is probably a safer bet than many other glandular supplement manufacturers on the market.

‘Great product for anyone looking to improve lung health. It is worth taking this every day, and 2-3x day if you get a cold in your chest.’
Amazing product. Whenever I have bronchitis this seems to help clear it up very fast. Would def recommend.
This was recommended to me by my niece – she had a bad case of pneumonia and was convinced that this was helpful. Previously I had to go to the hospital about once a year, as I have COPD. Since using this product my lungs stay cleared, and I have not been re-admitted to the hospital. Neat.
The only bad feedback comment came from a man who didn’t realise what he was taking!
Did not know this contained bovine glands. YUCK!!!
Nobody has mentioned nootropic effects or any side effects.
