What You Need To Know About Usana BiOmega

Usana Biomega looks to be a good quality fish oil supplement manufactured in the USA, scientifically produced under strict quality control standards. Usana Biomega contains fish oils that contain omega 3 fatty acids, with added Vitamin D, and these ingredients may have numerous benefits to health including a nootropic effect, although this is not yet strictly proven. That said, this supplement is expensive and the fact that it is on sale from a multi level marketing company can make it unnecessarily complicated to buy.

What Are The Side Effects Of Usana BiOmega?

It is important not to exceed the recommended daily dose, because higher doses of more 3 grams a day can cause the body’s immune system to work slower.

Some people may experience an allergic reaction with symptoms including, hives or skin irritation, increased heart rate puffiness, or welling in areas of face including lips or eyelids, and fatigue.

How Much Does Usana BiOmega Cost?

Usana Biomega is expensive especially when compared to the vast range of similar looking fish oil products on the market, which can retail for as little as $6.00 or £6.00 per bottle.

If you buy in the UK from a UK Usana Sales Affiliate, 1 x bottle of just 56 capsules costs £21.50 making the unit price 38p per capsules. If you are in the USA, the same sized bottle will cost $26.35

Usana Biomega is also on sale via Amazon USA from a range of sellers and priced between $26.88 and $24.99.

An over optimistic Usana Sales affiliate is attempting to sell 3 x bottles of Usana Biomega for a whopping £388.00 via Amazon UK. Unsurprisingly nobody appears to have bought it.

Our Verdict On Usana BiOmega

Usana Biomega is a safe looking and good quality supplement that is rich in omega 3 fatty acids, and also has the advantage of added vitamin D and lemon oil. However it is unlikely to offer a huge advantage over comparable and lower priced fish oil omega 3 supplements on the market and in our opinion it is overpriced. This is not unusual with supplements sold via MLM. They tend to be expensive and as an added drawback can be difficult to buy.

That said Usana Biomega does look better than most MLM supplements we have covered and if you are in the USA it is easy to buy from Amazon. However in our opinion you could probably get a better deal by buying a similarly good quality fish oil elsewhere and if you want vitamin D, buy a supplement that contains the full RDA serving size.

Usana BiOmega Review

Usana Biomega is a general health supplement that contains fish oil that is rich in omega 3 fatty acids. These are generally considered to be a good support for the brain and the cardiovascular systems of the body. The omega 3 used in this supplement contains both EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) which are both good for the heart, with DHA contributing to the positive functioning of the brain.

Omega 3 is a group of long chain fatty acids divided into the following categories that are known separately as DHA, EPA and ALA (α-linolenic acid).

ALA is present in foods such as plant oils and nuts whereas DHA and EPA derived from animal products. Further research suggests that the fish oil used in Usana Biomega is a concentrate probably made from Anchovies, Sardines or other deep water fish.

Usana BiOmega Facts

  • Each bottle contains 56 capsules ( 28 days supply)
  • Capsules contain added vitamin D
  • Made in the U.S.A

Omega 3 fatty acids are important for general health and the old wives tale has often given fish brain boosting qualities. There is evidence that this is true. There have been trials looking into EPA supplements as an effective treatment for depression. DHA is important in maintaining the structure of the grey matter in the brain and is is the most abundant and the most important fatty acid for this purpose. It is present naturally in the brain but also needs to be obtained by diet.

  • DHA is essential for the brains health and function.
  • EPA This type of omega-3 helps to reduce inflammation in the body.
  • ALA’s are part of the Omega 3 acids that have not yet been converted either into DHA’s or EPA

There are concerns about the safety of some fish oils because of the risk of contamination of pollutants in the sea. According to the product information Usana Biomega gets round this issue by the use of a double distillation process that removes contaminants such as mercury.

Usana Biomega also contains 100 IU of Vitamin D per capsule (about 14% of the recommended daily dose). There is currently an ongoing trial looking at omega 3 paired with Vitamin D to determine the potential benefits to an elderly population. Benefits may include improved bone health, mental functioning and mood but this 7 year trial, started in 2010 has not yet published results.

How to Take Usana BiOmega

  • Take 2 capsules of Usana Biomega a day which in total contains 2 grams of concentrated fish oil.

As well as omega 3 and vitamin D, the Biomega capsules contain lemon oil to removes the fishy taste of fish oil capsules which is a common problem with most fish capsules.

The recommended daily dose is 2 two capsules daily, with each dose equal to 1000mg.

Usana Biomega also contains 100 IU of Vitamin D per capsule (about 14% of the recommended daily dose). The capsules also contain lemon oil that removes the fishy taste of fish oil capsules. The recommended daily dose of 2 two capsules daily each dose is equal to 2000mg.

Although Usana Biomega looks good at first glance, this supplement is expensive when compared to similar products on the market. Fish oils capsules with omega 3 are not that hard to purchase from your local health shop and are produced by many manufacturers. Usana Biomega is expensive when compared to the competition, sometimes it is over twice the price.

Although vitamin D is added to this supplement, you can buy vitamin D tablets separately and it would still be cheaper than Usana Biomega capsules! Buying a Vitamin D supplement would also allow you to include the full recommended daily dose of vitamin D.

Usana BiOmega Concerns:

  • Usana Biomega can be difficult to buy without finding or becoming a Usana associate
  • It seems expensive for a fish oil supplement
  • You cannot rely on the nootropic effects of fish oil because these benefits are not yet strictly proven

Usana is an MLM (multi level marketing) company so apart from its price the other problem with Usana Biomega is the way you have to purchase it. You can’t buy it directly from the website. Instead you are supposed to buy it from a distributor known as a sales associate.

If you sign up to the company as a sales associate yourself, you gain points by selling products that are transferred into your local currency and paid out on achieving a required level of points. As is usual with MLM you are encouraged to sign up new sellers to your “downline”.

Usana is an American company based in Utah. The address of the head office is 3838 West Parkway Boulevard, Salt Lake City, Utah 84120 USA. Usana operates in around 20 countries worldwide.

Some people enjoy working in MLM and joining Usana as a sales associate might work for you as there is little to no financial risk, but you will probably find yourself in a situation with a lot of local competition, especially if you have been busy signing up others to join. This can make your sales side difficult to be noticed above the throng of competition. When recruitment becomes your business, rather than product sales, MLM turns into pyramid selling which is illegal.

What Does Usana BiOmega Claim To Do?

According to the Usana Biomega advertising, this supplement;

  • Provides guaranteed levels of EPA and DHA, two long-chain omega-3 fatty acids important for memory and learning.
  • Supports good cardiovascular, immune, health and joint health.
  • Plays a role in many important micro cellular processes needed for basic survival.

The manufacturing process is mentioned

“What makes Biomega exceptional is that it has all the benefits of fish oil in a convenient gel capsule, and it is essentially free of harmful contaminants like mercury because of its double distillation process”

“Biomega is also formulated with lemon oil to kill the fishy aftertaste found in other fish oil supplements.”

Does Usana BiOmega Work?

Yes! If taken regularly there is good evidence for omega 3 fatty acids helping cardio vascular functioning and joint and limb pains. However the nootropic effects are not so easy to define. Some studies suggest that high levels of omega 3 can reduce symptoms of depression as well as improve the symptoms of ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder).

Omega 3 may help prevent degenerative illnesses such as Alzheimer’s and dementia. None of these effects are strictly proven yet but it is fair to say that taken long term the ingredients contained in Usana Biomega may have a positive effect on health.

What Are The Ingredients of Usana BiOmega?

Serving size is equal to 2 capsules. Amounts here reflect serving size

  • Vitamin D (as Cholecalciferol) (200 IU): Vitamin D is obtained from sunlight and is required for the regulation of calcium and phosphorus found in the body. It plays an important role in maintaining proper bone structure and teeth. NHS advice is that most people receive adequate vitamin D throughout the summer months but supplementation can be important for some groups during winter. Source

Fish oil concentrate (2000mg)

  • EPA (580mg): Eicosapentaenoic acid is derived from fish oil and is the type of omega-3 that helps to reduce inflammation in the body. EPA may have numerous benefits for long term health including the possible resistance to some types of cancer.
  • DHA (470mg): Docosahexaenoic acid is essential for the brains health and function. It is important in maintaining the structure of the grey matter in the brain and is the most abundant and the most important fatty acid for this purpose. It is present naturally in the brain but also needs to be obtained by diet. Source
  • Lemon Oil is an essential oil made from lemon peel. A natural astringent and antiseptic, it is used to take away the fishy aftertaste of the fish oil.

Other ingredients include gelatin, glycerin, purified water, Natural tocopherols, and Soybean Oil.

Does Usana BiOmega Have Any Side Effects?

This supplement should be safe for most people. However some people may experience an allergic reaction to fish oils which may include;

  • Hives or skin irritation
  • Increased heart rate
  • Puffiness or swelling in areas of the face including lips or eyelids
  • Fatigue

The most common side effects to fish oils are usually digestive and include belching, fishy after taste or stomach upset but these effects will probably be minimised by the addition of the lemon oil.

It is important not to overdo the recommend dose because this can actually reverse some of the supplements positive effects and large doses are known to slow down the immune system.

Not suitable for individuals under 18, for pregnant women or if you are breast feeding. In these cases you should seek medical advice before use. Likewise if you have an underlying health condition or are taking prescription medication. Discontinue use in the case of an allergic reaction and consult your doctor immediately.

Are There Any Customer Reviews For Usana BiOmega?

There are some customer reviews posted on Amazon USA. All are positive which is good but it is important to remember that MLM supplements often attract a lot of positive feedback from the vast number of distributors also trying to sell the product.

This lady claimed that her doctor advised Usana supplements for her son. We find this hard to believe,

My son has a history of nerve health issues. This is very rare & not easy to treat. A Dr who is familiar with his diagnosis suggested USANA supplements. I could not believe what a difference they made! His health had improved drastically, within just a few weeks of taking the USANA supplements that were recommended

Many people have reacted favourably to the capsules, a typical comment;

I love that there is no fishy after-taste

One customer has put his faith in Usana rather than prescription drugs, which is certainly not advisable,

I have an Anxiety/Panic disorder. This keeps things calm. I refuse prescription drugs because they are a product of Satan. USANA is great and YES this stuff is LEGIT. Factory sealed and all.

The product is good and I’m very satisfied with it. I will recommend this product to my friends. Thank you.

Does Usana BiOmega Offer a Money-Back Guarantee?

If you buy through a local sales affiliate as recommended, you might be able to get your money back if you are dissatisfied. However a more likely outcome is that you would be encouraged to buy more Usana products, so don’t hold your breath on this one.

Where Can I Buy Usana BiOmega?

You can’t just walk into a shop and buy Usana Biomega. You are supposed to find a Usana sales affiliate and buy through one of these, preferably in your local area.

An easier option is to buy via Amazon. This supplement is on sale on Amazon USA and also Amazon UK although at a vastly inflated price. Usana Biomega can also be purchased from for $26.35 USD for 56 capsules from one of its distributors.

Usana Biomega should work as well as other fish oil capsules and there is nothing to suggest it would be less effective. But, with its expensive cost and MLM connections to purchasing the capsules it is hard to recommend over the many other similar supplements on the market.
